Japanese model-turned-actress Rila Fukushima said her character’s friendship with X-Men favourite Wolverine – played by Hugh Jackman – has made her friends jealous.
Fukushima plays Logan’s self-appointed bodyguard – the flame-haired badass, Yukio – in The Wolverine.
“I really liked the scene when Yukio is passed out on the floor and Logan is all ‘Don’t hit my friend!’ – I mean I get to play a character who is friends with the Wolverine!” laughs Fu-kushima. “My friends love that moment too, they get jealous that I play a friend of Logan.”
The respect and friendship between Yukio and Logan stood out in the film, and stayed re-freshingly platonic – something Fukushima appreciated.
“There’s definitely a special emotional connection between them. Yukio is an outsider and so is Logan and they’re both soldiers so they have this special bond. When Yukio is look-ing for Logan, I’m pretty sure she feels something special. It’s like she feels she knows this person, and she has a special ability too.”
