The Omen TV spin-off gets picked up by Lifetime

Lifetime want to break out of “women’s drama” with… The Omen TV show?

The Omen jumped on the horror film-to-series bandwagon in May as 20th Century Fox announced spin-off show Damien. Subsequently, Lifetime has picked the drama thriller up for a six-episode run.

Confirmed crew so far consists of The Walking Dead’s former showrunner Glen Mazzara, whowill act as writer and executive producer.

Rob Sharenow, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Lifetime, told The Hollywood Reporter: “We are thrilled to be bringing a contemporary version of The Omen’s Damien Thorn back to the screen.

“Glen Mazzara has re-imagined him as a dark, romantic anti-hero and this fresh take blends complex characters with premium storytelling to make something truly original.”

The series will follow the 1976 film’s antagonist Damien Thorn in his adult life as he deals with his destiny as the Antichrist and is haunted by his past. It’s difficult to tell at this stage without a more detailed series synopsis, but it sounds like we’re in for a lot of manful soul-searching and possibly even more crying and regret.

You can buy The Omen Trilogy on Blu-ray for £19.90 at Amazon.co.uk.
