The Hunger Games 2 versus X-Men: First Class 2

Originally filming was going to start this Autumn on the follow-up to 2011’s soft reboot, X-Men: First Class, but now work on the sequel has been pushed back to January 2013 thanks to the meteoric rise of Jennifer Lawrence, who played Mystique in the movie, and has hit a whole new level of fame as Katniss Everdeen in Gary Ross’ dystopian teen sci-fi flick The Hunger Games.

Jennifer Lawrence’s commitment to both means that The Hunger Games 2, based on Suzanne Collins’ second book Catching Fire, is expected to start August/September, forcing Fox to back down and push their filming back to avoid losing one of their most bankable stars.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lionsgate, who’re producing The Hunger Games sequel have made one concession though, and they’ve had to drop their plans to hold Lawrence exclusively for seven months due to pressure from Fox to let her go sooner and slap on the blue body paint.

What do you think, should X-Men: First Class 2 have continued without Jennifer Lawrence, or is it worth seeing Mystique step up and take a more prominent role if it brings in the box office hits needed to keep the series alive?
