The Blob remake finds a director for updated goo

The new remake of The Blob has slithered its way to a director and threats of CGI

The Blob 1988The remake of The Blob (or is it a remake of a remake) has found a director in Con Air and The Expendables 2‘s Simon West.

Deadline reports that West, who is best known for his work in the action genre, will take on the update of the tale of a small town under siege from an alien goo that sets about consuming the locals, and production is set to start this summer.

West stated that “With modern CGI we can now fully realize the potential of The Blob. The world I create will be totally believable, immersive and emotionally satisfying. It’s a thrill to introduce an enduring icon to a wider audience and a whole new era of fans.”

The CGI might look good, but we’re a sucker for the gloriously gooey prosthetics of Chuck Russell’s 1988 remake, which starred Kevin Dillon and Shawnee Smith…
