Shailene Woodley has hinted that she might not play Mary Jane Watson in The Amazing Spider-Man 3, owing to her commitment to Divergent 2.

Speaking to MTV.com at the Sundance premiere of her film White Bird In A Blizzard, Woodley said that shooting two huge blockbusters in one year might not be possible.

“I don’t know anything, but seeing as how they picked up the next two Divergent films, I don’t know how I would keep my sanity with two big action films in one year,” she told the site. “But anything can happen.”

Woodley was due to play Mary Jane in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 but it was announced that her character had been cut for pacing issues. The assumption was that she would rejoin the franchise for the third film, but clearly scheduling will be an issue.

Jennifer Lawrence faced a similar issue with The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and X-Men: Days Of Future Past and managed to work it out. The statement about her sanity seems to suggest that it will ultimately be her decision as to whether she can do both, but it will inevitably depend on shooting schedules.

Divergent is released on 4 April in the UK. You can buy Divergent in paperback for £5.59 at Amazon.co.uk.
