Star Wars: Rogue One teaser-teaser unveils new Stormtrooper

Get your first proper look at Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

It looks like it’s ‘teaser for the teaser’ time yet again. Soon – very soon – we will be seeing the first teaser trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the first prequel to spin off out of the main Star Wars series.

Telling the story of the fledgling Rebel Alliance’s plans to uncover the plans for the planet-destroying Death Star, it promises a ground-up approach to the Star Wars universe that we’ve never seen the likes of before. And judging by the presence of director Gareth Edwards, responsible for indie thriller Monsters and the surprisingly intimate big-budget remake Godzilla, we’re going to get this.

But in the meantime we have this brief glimpse of what to expect when the teaser trailer is finally released. As much as we dislike the whole concept of a trailer for a trailer, we finally have a visual: namely a new design of Stormtrooper. It’s unlike any we’ve seen before, but hopefully it’s just a taster of what to expect ahead of the next big reveal. Moreover, it’s already opened up debate as to what’s happening happening in the background, which looks vaguely Tatooine-esque in terms of the design of the burning structures. Then again there’s greenery, so it probably isn’t. And we said the same thing about what eventually turned out to be Jakku in The Force Awakens, so we’re almost certainly wrong.

Edwards is directing from a script penned by John Knoll, Chris Weitz and Gary Whitta, with the cast so far including Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed, Donnie Yen, Wen Jiang, Alan Tudyk, Mads Mikkeksen, Forest Whittaker and Ben Mendelsohn.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will be released in cinemas on 16 December 2016. You can download our Star Wars: The Original Trilogy and Star Wars: Expanded Universe Complete Manuals from GreatDigitalMags.com. For more news about the biggest movies, pick up the new issue of SciFiNow.
