According to Variety, four young actors are in the running for the Jedi lead in JJ Abrams’ Star Wars: Episode VII.

The site reports that Downton Abbey‘s Ed Speleers, Attack The Black‘s John Boyega, Breaking Bad‘s Jesse Plemons and theatre actors Matthew James Thomas and Ray Fisher are on the shortlist.

Although Michael Arndt’s original screenplay focused heavily on Leia (Carrie Fisher) and Han (Harrison Ford)’s children, the recent rewrites have moved them to a supporting role, with this new character – believed to be a Jedi apprentice and perhaps tutored by Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) – coming to the fore.

Star Wars: Episode VII is due in cinemas 18 December 2015. You can buy Star Wars: The Complete Saga for £57.99 on Blu-ray from Amazon.co.uk.
