Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s film of Neil Gaiman’s classic comic series The Sandman has found a writer in Jack Thorne.
Thorne is best known to UK genre fans as the writer of the short-lived but absolutely mad horror/fantasy/everything else TV series The Fades, starring Iain De Caestecker. More recently he’s worked on Saorise Ronan vehicle How I Live Now, as well as Shane Meadows on his This Is England series.
Deadline reports Gordon-Levitt’s involvement beyond producing is still unclear, we don’t yet know whether or not he’ll direct and/or star. David S Goyer’s pitch for how to adapt The Sandman into a movie is credited with being the engine behind this adaptation, and the Man Of Steel writer remains attached as a producer, while Thorne will be working from his script.
Obviously, this is still early days for The Sandman, but the addition of a writer who has tackled hugely ambitious subject matter before (on a BBC3 budget) feels like a step in the right direction.
