Fans of the Resident Evil franchise who are a little peeved about the delay to Resident Evil 6 have some news to get excited about: a TV show is in development.

Variety reports that Constantin Film is developing a TV show based on the hugely successful franchise.

The article is light on details when it comes to whether or not the show would be following the stories of the film or make some attempt to return to the games, but it does note that the series won’t get going until the next film is released. That next movie is Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, which is due for release in 2016.

A TV show does seem like a fairly natural fit for the Resident Evil franchise, and if it could continue the globe-trotting of the movies it could provide something new for the TV zombie landscape. Still, like the recently announced Underworld TV show, we’ll be approaching this one cautiously.

You can buy the Resident Evil Collection on Blu-ray for £11 at Amazon.co.uk. Keep up with the latest zombie news with the new issue of SciFiNow.
