Preacher UK air date and broadcaster confirmed

Praise the Lord, Preacher’s coming to the UK

Preacher is coming, and we’re so very relieved that it’s coming to the UK as well.

Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s TV show of Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s searing, controversial and hilarious Vertigo comic series will launch on Amazon Prime on 23 May. That’s Monday!

From then on it will be ever Monday, the day after the episodes have premiered in the US on AMC.

This is a huge relief to those of us who were eagerly anticipating the long-awaited adaptation and noticing that the US debut was getting closer and closer with no UK date in sight…until now.

The official press release describes the show thusly:

“Produced by Seth RogenEvan Goldberg (This Is The End, Superbad, Bad Neighbours) and showrunner Sam Catlin (Breaking Bad) and based on Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s much-celebrated comic book, PREACHER is a supernatural, twisted and darkly comedic drama that follows a West Texas preacher named Jesse Custer, played by British actor Dominic Cooper (WarcraftAgent Carter), who is inhabited by a mysterious entity that causes him to develop a highly unusual power. Jesse, his badass ex-girlfriend Tulip (Ruth NeggaAgents Of S.H.I.E.L.D, World War Z) and an Irish vagabond named Cassidy (Joseph GilgunThis Is England, Misfits) come together and when they do, they are thrust into a crazy world populated by a cast of characters from Heaven, Hell and everywhere in between.”

That highly unusual power is, of course, Genesis, which comes straight from Heaven and gives Jesse the power to command people to do whatever he says. In the comics, Jesse, Tulip and Cassidy hit the road almost immediately for a journey full of brutal violence, blasphemy and straight-up filth, but from what we’ve heard, the show takes things a little more slowly.

The cast also includes W Earl Brown as Sheriff Root, Ian Colletti as Arseface, Jackie Earle Haley as Odin Quincannon, Derek Wilson as Donnie Schenck, Anatol Yusef as DeBlanc, Tom Brooke as Fiore, and Lucy Griffiths as Emily (a new character created for the show).

This is the most excited we’ve been for a Monday in years.

Preacher will begin on Amazon Prime on 23 May. Read more about the show in the new issue of SciFiNow.
