Green Hornet writer and fratboy icon Seth Rogen is now officially developing the Preacher TV series for The Walking Dead network AMC, alongside his childhood friend and This Is The End director Evan Goldberg.

Rogen and Goldberg will write the pilot and executively produce the series, while Breaking Bad‘s Sam Catlin will also produce.

“This is amazing!” said the pair in a statement. “We’ve tried for seven years to work on Preacher and we’re so psyched AMC is finally letting us. It is our favorite comic of all time, and we’re going to do everything we can to do it right. Humperdoo!”

Based on the controversial DC Vertigo comic by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon, it’s easy to see why the profane and ultra-violent tale of a Texas preacher on a mission to confront God appeals to the pair.

“Steve Dillon and I are very happy to see Preacher being developed for TV,” said Ennis, “which seems a much more natural home for the story than a two-hour movie…

“Obviously it’s taken awhile, but Ken Levin along with Neal Moritz and his team refused to give up, long after the point when I myself grew skeptical, and their unrelenting enthusiasm for the project has gotten us where we need to be.”

The Walking Dead Season 4 is showing on FOX on Friday nights at 10pm. You can buy The Walking Dead Season 3 on DVD for £27.50 at Amazon.co.uk.
