Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s Preacher TV series has cast another key role.
Deadline reports that Joseph Gilgun (Misfits, Pride, Lockout) has been cast as Irish vampire Cassidy.
The hard-drinking vampire is described as “the most wild-ass, bestest “bro” you’d ever want to meet. He may be 100 years dead but no one’s more boisterously alive than Proinsias Cassidy. An incorrigible mischief-maker, Cassidy’s up for anything — joyriding, bungee-jumping, bank robbing, peyote dropping. He’s also a relentless conversationalist with opinions on everything from religion to politics to pop culture to theories on why people are better able to tolerate the odor of their own flatulence.”
He’s also got some dark secrets of his own and prone to making some pretty horrible mistakes. Gilgun’s got a great track record of playing well-intentioned maniacs; he was certainly the high point of Misfits later seasons as the un-shut-up-able Rudy Wade, and showed emotional range in Shane Meadows’ This Is England. He’s perfect for the role (providing he can do an Irish accent, of course) and this is very exciting casting news.
He joins Ruth Negga (Agents Of SHIELD) as Tulip O’Hare and Ian Colletti as Arseface. Deadline notes that Dominic Cooper has been in talks for the lead role of Jesse Custer, but nothing’s been confirmed on that front yet.
