Okja first look at Tilda Swinton in Bong Joon-Ho’s Netflix sci-fi

Tilda Swinton and Giancarlo Esposito star in Okja, from the director of Snowpiercer

We absolutely cannot wait for Okja, the new film from brilliant Korean director Bong Joon-ho (Snowpiercer, Memories Of Murder, Mother, The Host), and now Netflix has been kind enough to release the first official image, showing off the most excellent Tilda Swinton and Giancarlo Esposito.

“Okja stars Tilda Swinton (Hail, Caesar!, Moonrise Kingdom), Jake Gyllenhaal (Nightcrawler, Southpaw) and Paul Dano (Love & Mercy, 12 Years a Slave) in a bold, global adventure. Okja was written by Bong and Jon Ronson (Frank) and follows Mija, a young girl who must risk everything to prevent a powerful, multi-national company from kidnapping her best friend – a massive animal named ‘Okja’. Mija will be played by Seohyun An.”

The cast also includes Lily Collins (The Mortal Instruments), Kelly Macdonald (Boardwalk Empire), Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead), Byeon Hee-bong (The Host, Memories Of Murder), Yun Je-moon (Mother, The Good, The Bad And The Weird), Daniel Henshall (Snowtown, The Babadook), Shirley Henderson (Tale Of Tales) and Devon Bostick (The 100).

Bong Joon-ho has never made a film that we didn’t love, and this sounds wonderful, so we are having a pretty difficult time containing our excitement. Also, given the tortured release process that Snowpiercer went through, we’re pretty delighted that we’ll actually be able to see this one in the UK. Yep, still waiting on that god damn Snowpiercer release over here. Whenever you guys are ready.

Okja will be released in 2017. Read our review of Snowpiercer here and keep up with the latest genre news with the new issue of SciFiNow.
