Nicole Kidman, Colin Farrell to star in The Lobster director’s horror

Yorgos Lanthimos casts his supernatural revenge movie The Killing Of A Sacred Deer

We’re huge fans of the work of Yorgos Lanthimos, the man who brought us The Lobster, Dogtooth and Alps, and his next movie is already looking very impressive indeed.

THR reports that Nicole Kidman and Colin Farrell are in talks to star in The Killing Of A Sacred Deer, which Lanthimos co-wrote with his The Lobster collaborator Efthimis Fillipou and will direct.

It’s being described as “a psychological revenge thriller with a hint of supernatural thrown in,” which we can shorthand to “horror” with a certain degree of confidence.

Farrell, who was absolutely brilliant in The Lobster, stars “as a successful surgeon who attempts to integrate a teenager into his family, but when the teen’s actions grow increasingly sinister, the doctor is forced to make an unthinkable sacrifice,” while Kidman will play the character’s wife.

The Killing Of A Sacred Deer will shoot in August.

Lanthimos is a filmmaker who brilliantly brings troubling subject matter to life. The Lobster was on the lighter end of his range for the most part, but it’s pretty bloody dark in places, and Dogtooth, as anyone who’s seen it will tell you, is incredibly disturbing. This sounds very exciting and we’re going to be keeping a close eye on it.
