The Robinson family are hopping aboard the Jupiter 2 and heading back out to the unknown as Lost In Space is getting a TV reboot.

Deadline reports that Dracula Untold writers Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless will be penning the series, which has been put in development by Legendary TV.

Based on The Swiss Family Robinson, Irwin Allen’s cult sci-fi classic started in 1965 and ran for 83 episodes. It starred Guy Williams, June Lockhart, Mark Goddard, Marta Kristen, Bill Mumy, Angela Cartwright and Jonathan Harris.

A film based on the series was made in 1998 (starring Gary Oldman, John Hurt and Heather Graham) and, though it made an impact at the box office, it was mostly terrible, with descriptions like ‘dumbest’, ‘lifeless’ and ‘least imaginative’ popping up a lot in reviews. Here’s to praying the TV series doesn’t also get lost in space.

You can buy Lost In Space: Complete Collection on DVD for £32.24 from Amazon.co.uk. For more on everything sci-fi, pick up the latest issue of SciFiNow.
