Amazing news is upon us: Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has officially been confirmed for Sony’s Jumanji remake!
The news was announced by The Rock himself when he took to Instagram this weekend to write quite a lengthy post, which you can read below:
Rumours of a Jumanji remake had been circulating for a while prior to Sony announcing firm plans for it in August last year. The news wasn’t that well received, what with it coming so soon after original Jumanji star Robin Williams’ death. But Sony have decided to go ahead with it anyway, much to quite a few people’s chagrin.
However, we’re pretty confident The Rock will do the film and Williams’ Alan Parrish-legacy justice. Jumanji was kind of goofy anyway, so all we want is for its remake to be kind of goofy too. The Rock’s got this covered, guys.
The only thing we’re slightly worried about is the fact that The Rock’s use of the hashtag ‘#JustPressStart’ suggests that Jumanji will be a video game, as opposed to a board game. Don’t know how to feel about that… It’s probably nothing…
Prior to this casting announcement, rumours were circulating that The Rock would be starring in the film alongside Ride Along actor Kevin Hart, but Hart’s involvement is yet to be confirmed or denied. Jake Kasdan (Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story) will direct the remake. Jumanji starts filming this autumn in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Jumanji will hit cinemas in summer 2017. Get all the latest fantasy news with every issue of SciFiNow.
