Iron Fist cancelled by Netflix, no season three

Danny Rand is down for the count at Netflix as Iron Fist is cancelled but is there a future elsewhere?

Iron Fist has had a rocky road with its Netflix series, as the first season was roundly criticised and while the second was generally seen to be an improvement, it didn’t really seem to be seen by that many people. Still, it’s something of a surprise that the streaming service has cancelled the Marvel show.

Deadline reported that Netflix has decided not to renew Iron Fist, which stars Finn Jones, Jessica Henwick, Jessica Stroup, Tom Pelphrey, Sacha Dhawan and Alice Eve, but it sounds like there might still be hope for the series elsewhere.

In a joint statement, Marvel and Netflix said “Marvel’s Iron Fist will not return for a third season on Netflix. Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is proud of the series and grateful for all of the hard work from our incredible cast, crew and showrunners,” Marvel and Netflix added. “We’re thankful to the fans who have watched these two seasons, and for the partnership we’ve shared on this series. While the series on Netflix has ended, the immortal Iron Fist will live on.”

Yes, that final line could be more than an “in our hearts” type deal, as Deadline notes that there’s a very strong possibility the show could reappear on Disney’s streaming service once it arrives. They’ve already reportedly got series focusing on movie characters like Loki and Scarlet Witch in the works, and an established show could be a nice easy win for them.

Meanwhile, it’s the first Marvel show to be cancelled by Netflix, which is going ahead with a third season of Jessica Jones and almost certainly a third season of Luke Cage, while Daredevil Season Three arrives at the end of this week. The Punisher has also wrapped its second season and is expected to be released at some point early next year.

The real question is: what does mean for the Daughters Of The Dragon series we all want?
