According to Deadline, Men In Black star and former Fresh Prince Will Smith has officially opted out of the proposed sequel to Roland Emmerich’s 1996 disasterpiece Independence Day.
This isn’t automatically bad news for the production, as Emmerich and co-writer/producer Dean Devin originally wrote two drafts of the script, one for Smith’s return and one without. These were being developed further by The Amazing Spider-Man writer James Vanderbilt.
However, given Smith’s quality control hasn’t been at its highest recently – hello After Earth – what does it say about Independence Day 2 that he wants out?
Independence Day 2 has been set for a 3 July 2015 release date. You can buy Independence Day on Blu-ray for £5.
