Imagine Publishing has announced that it will begin releasing digital copies of its magazines through the iTunes store.

“We’re very excited about this new development,” said Aaron Asadi, editor-in-chief of Entertainment at Imagine. “The new digital platform redefines the boundaries of magazine publishing and new media journalism, and allows our readers the convenience of being able to read the magazine anywhere, at any time.”

Every magazine in the Imagine stable, including SciFiNow, will have its own dedicated iPhone application, which includes a free issue of the magazine. Users will have the ability to then purchase further issues using their iTunes accounts, as well as subscribe for six or 12-month periods, and purchase back issues.

Users will also be able to view the magazines on the iPod Touch device, as well as the recently announced iPad tablet computer. Imagine is one of the first publishing companies in the world to launch their entire line digitally in this manner, and the venture is being launched in partnership with PixelMags.

All issues of SciFiNow and other Imagine titles such as X360, Games TM, Play, iCreate and many more are available now from the iTunes store.

This is a fantastic idea, and while magazines will never be replaced, it at least frees up any ones you don’t want or have to get rid of. I hope I get an Ipod Touch for my birthday in August, so fingers crossed!
