Heroes Reborn is coming together, with Chuck‘s Zachary Levi recently announced as joining the cast of Tim Kring’s ongoing saga.

However, another star of the original series has confirmed that he won’t be returning to the show. Zachary Quinto, who played Sylar, told Kate Aurthur of Buzzfeed (via SlashFilm) that he turned down the chance to reprise his character.

“No, I’m not going to go back,” he said. I talked to them about it, and Tim reached out to me when they decided they were going to do it. We had a great conversation. It was such a meaningful experience for me — I loved that job, I loved those people…I just felt like I didn’t want to go back to it….Tim was very, very understanding, Tim Kring. He was very understanding and supportive. I’m thrilled that they’re doing it, I’m thrilled that Jack Coleman is going back to it. And I know that they just cast Zach Levi, which is great. I mean, it’s a great thing to be a part of. I just felt like I need to cultivate other outlets for myself.”

Since starring as the murderous, scalp-opening killer on the show, Quinto has gone on to show his range in everything from Star Trek to American Horror Story to Margin Call. It makes sense that he wants to move forward, not back. Milo Ventimiglia, who played Peter Petrelli in the original series, ruled himself out early on, while Hayden Panetierre (Claire Bennet) and Ali Larter (Niki Sanders) will also not return.

Heroes Reborn begins on NBC at some point this year. Keep up with the latest sci-fi TV news with the latest issue of SciFiNow.
