Hansel And Gretel: Witch Hunters 2 loses director

Jeremy Renner’s schedule isn’t the only problem facing Hansel And Gretel: Witch Hunters 2

The last week or so hasn’t been short on news about Hansel & Gretel Witch Hunters 2. Whether it’s writer-director Tommy Wirkola saying he’s written a script, or Jeremy Renner only hearing about that script thanks to an interviewer, we’ve not been short on witch hunting news.

Now, Wirkola has decided that he’s not interested in directing after all. Speaking to Fangoria while on the promotional trail for his actually-really-entertaining Dead Snow 2: Red Vs Dead, the filmmaker revealed he won’t be back.

“I’ve just decided to not direct Hansel And Gretel 2,” he said. “I have been lately attached to a few more things, it’s just a matter of time and priorities. I did Dead Snow 1, then Hansel And Gretel 1, and then Dead Snow 2. I want to do something a little bit different now and not just do sequels. I did write the script and I hope to be involved in it. But yeah, I won’t be directing it.”

Having seen the amount of fun he had with his Dead Snow sequel, this is actually quite disappointing news. Still, the film seems to be a priority at Paramount. Will they find another director? Will Renner find time to fit it into his schedule? Will anyone ask Gemma Arterton how she feels about all this? Time will tell.
