Gotham Season 1 will rewrite Scarecrow’s origin story for the Batman Begins TV show

Speaking at Stan Lee’s Comikaze (via Zap2It), Gotham TV series director (and lest we forget, director of 1995’s Judge Dredd) Danny Cannon revealed that not only is classic Batman foe Scarecrow going to be putting in an appearance in the show, but his origin story is getting a complete rewrite.

“We’re breaking the story now,” said Cannon. “The villain will be seen as a child, before he takes on the Scarecrow moniker.

“In fact, it’s something that will be passed on to him from his father, which will create an eventual enemy for Batman while still having an adversary for Jim Gordon.”

Our Fear Gas-wielding psychiatrist psychopath Professor Jonathan Crane then won’t be Scarecrow so much as Son of Scarecrow.

With the growing importance of Arkham Asylum in the show, it’s easy to see how Scarecrow could make his debut in the family business…
