Godzilla 2 will be bigger and better than the first one

Godzilla writer teases a bigger and better sequel to Gareth Edwards’ 2014 hit

godzillaGodzilla 2 is still a long way off, so any news is probably going to be of the “tease” variety for a while. Along those lines, writer Max Borenstein spoke to Collider about what we can expect from the sequel to Gareth Edwards’ 2014 box office smash.

“I’m doing it. I’m writing it now, and it’s really going to be great,” he explained. “I don’t want to go off book and tell you anything that I’m not allowed to tell you. The response to the first film was really exciting, but now that that world is established, we can do bigger and even better things. We’re really stoked.”

He also enthused about the opportunity to work with Edwards again, who is currently off making Star Wars: Rogue One.

“Yeah, I hope,” he said. “He’s making Star Wars right now, so he’s a little preoccupied, but yeah. Gareth is amazing. It’s exciting to get to work with him again. One of the fun things about that experience is the same fun that it’s been on [Minority Report], where you really get to have your fingers in the pie.”

Borenstein’s not exactly slacking either, having created the aforementioned Minority Report TV show, and he’s written Legendary’s other big monster mash, Kong: Skull Island.

As for those bigger and better comments, a big part of Edwards’ film was teasing the big guy before delivering a stunning final twenty minutes, and it makes sense that the same strategy couldn’t really be used twice. The delayed gratification approach did seem to alienate some viewers, but we were big fans. We can’t wait to see what Edwards delivers with his follow-up.

Godzilla 2 will be released on 18 June 2018. Keep up with the latest genre news with the new issue of SciFiNow.
