A sequel to Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla is in development at Warner Bros and Legendary after the monster blockbuster scored a huge opening weekend.
Deadline confirmed that Godzilla 2 is currently in development following the biggest opening weekend of the year so far, beating out Captain America: The Winter Soldier with $93 million in the US alone.
The news comes as a relief to fans of the movie (we all remember the disappointing US numbers for Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim), and it was widely known that Warners were waiting for the numbers to come in before greenlighting a sequel. It’s assumed that Edwards will stay on for the sequel as he’s spoken in the past about how he would approach it.
