Bernard Rose has announced that he’s making a modern-day Frankenstein update, and has assembled quite an impressive cast.

Deadline reports that Twilight: Eclipse star Xavier Samuel will play the creature. If you don’t have any idea who Riley Biers is, Samuel also impressed in the excellent horror The Loved Ones and hugely entertaining shark-in-a-supermarket movie Bait.

Also joining the cast are everyone’s favourite sinister character actor Danny Huston (American Horror Story: Coven, 30 Days Of Night) and Carrie-Anne Moss (still best known for playing Trinity in The Matrix). Candyman star and genre icon Tony Todd will also star.

“Frankenstein is set in present-day Los Angeles and told from the perspective of Adam/The Monster (Samuel), who is created by a husband-and-wife team of eccentric scientists only to be met with nothing but aggression and violence from the world around him.”

Rose has struggled to find form recently, with the terrible SX_Tape representing his last trip into the horror genre, but we’ll always be interested in seeing what the director of Candyman and Paperhouse comes up with. Fingers crossed this will be a return to form.

It might have to be if it’s going to make an impression on what is becoming a crowded marketplace when it comes to Mary Shelley’s creation. There’s Paul McGuigan and Max Landis’ Frankenstein on the way, starring James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe, and Universal is surely developing its own take as part of its programme to revive their classic monster movies.

You can buy Candyman on Blu-ray for £7 at Amazon.co.uk. Keep up with the latest genre news with the new issue of SciFiNow.
