Unfortunately I wasn't alive when "A New Hope" came out in theaters, but I remember once reading that people actually "booed" aloud when Darth Vader appeared. Star Wars was a part of my childhood whether I was there "when it happened" or not. It was probably a bigger part of my adulthood than I'd like to admit :). My son is 7, and fits the description about playing with Lego Star Wars (he got the special edition Darth Vader Tie Fighter - the one with the slightly curved wings) and has beaten the Lego Star Wars video games on his own. He also more recently beat the "Star Wars: The Force Unleashed" game on xbox360 on his own, and I'm proud to say he seems to favor the classic characters (luke/han/chewy/vader) to the prequel ones.
