Flatliners remake lines up surprisingly impressive star

Juno and Inception star is in talks to star in the Flatliners remake

It seems like a very long time ago that news of the Flatliners remake appeared, with The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo director Niels Arden Oplev attached. Now there’s a surprisingly impressive piece of casting news.

Ellen PAge

Variety reports that Ellen Page is in talks to star in the remake of Joel Schumacher’s 1990 sci-fi about a group of young medical students who find a way to die, then bring themselves back to life after seeing the other side. The original cast was pretty damn impressive, with Kiefer Sutherland, Julia Roberts, Kevin Bacon and Oliver Platt among the titular ‘liners.

It’s not exactly a classic, but it’s schlocky fun and we’ve got a soft spot for it, with memories of Sutherland’s “Today’s a good day to die” macho posturing, Schumacher’s never-heard-of-the-word-subtle direction and a small girl fiendishly mocking Bacon’s character David Labraccio by calling him “Fellatio” on a crowded commuter train.

Page’s casting would suggest an attempt to aim quite high, and we’re certainly more interested if her involvement is confirmed.
