First look: Thor

by James Rundle

The mighty thunder god comes to Marvel Studios.

The first theatrical trailer for Thor has appeared. The 2:45 minute footage is a full trailer, showing all major characters from the film, which was posted by io9 earlier.

Directed by Kenneth Branagh, the film stars Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddlestone and Chris Hemsworth as Thor among others. The film is scheduled for a summer 2011 release.

What did you think? I was actually reminded of Iron Man quite a lot in the trailer, which is a fair testament to the worldbuilding skills that Marvel has built up in their films over the last few years. I’m also slightly relieved – the early stills didn’t fill me with a huge amount of confidence, but I can safely say I’m now looking forward to it.

It doesn’t look AS BAD as I thought it would… But it also doesn’t look GOOD…

Mixed the now but the visuals do look good. I need to read up on Thor – can anyone recommend any Thor comics to start with in time for the movie?

@Kevin Hall Read the latest Thor series that was written by J. Michael Straczysnki. There are(I think..) already 4 or 5 volumes out. I’ve only read the first few but they’re really good.

The movie looks like a proper Thor movie, I just hope Brannagh doesn’t overdo it with long and overdone mythical dialogue. It doesn’t have to be Iron Man either. Doens’t look bad.
