Disney has unveiled the first trailer for its upcoming fantasy film, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.
The film – loosely taken from Disney’s classic animation Fantasia – stars Nicolas Cage as famed sorcerer Balthazar Blake. Living in present day New York City, Blake finds himself having to defend Manhattan from his sworn enemy Maxim Horvath. Enlisting the help of a gifted young man named Dave Stutler (played by Jay Baruchel), Blake goes about teaching his new protégé the art and wisdom of magic.
As you can see from the promo, this is a family picture and features Nicolas Cage in typically eccentric form. The film is directed by Jon Turteltaub and will be released on 16 July 2010. You can watch the trailer below, courtesy of Rope Of Silicon.

Not too sure about this one – ever since Ghost Rider and the terrible Wicker Man remake, Nicholas Cage hasn’t had the best roles… Although this could work in his favour as it’s a family film, he needs a better scifi or horror film to star in. I won’t be holding my breath for this one.
