First look: Iron Man 2

by Shaun Davis

The Iron Man 2 trailer is finally here.

Picture 1Paramount has released the first trailer for Iron Man 2, and in good faith this promo is a big blast of superhero entertainment. This footage follows a lot of internet hype and is the culmination of an intriguing viral campaign. Fans won’t be disappointed with what’s on show here.

But the burning question remains: how much does this trailer show us? Well, quite a lot actually. There’s plenty of Robert Downey Jr strutting his charms as Tony Stark, some nice action shots of Mickey Rourke’s Whiplash, an ace teaser of both Iron Man and War Machine in action, plus a multitude of quick cuts, which include Scarlett Johansson kicking ass as Black Widow and a glimpse of Nick Fury.

You can watch the trailer below, courtesy of Trailer Addict. Or alternatively catch it on Apple in shiny high definition.

Iron Man 2 is scheduled for release on 07 May 2010 and will be reviewed in a future issue of SciFiNow.

Can’t wait for this to hit cinemas in May (Do we really have to wait that long?)! Robert Downey Jr looks set to be cheekier and brilliant as Tony Stark – loved the mask kissing and throwing there, and was that Samuel L Jackson I briefly saw there too? Gonna watch the first one again this weekend I think :P

      On the other hand…

I think this trailer for Iron Man 2 looks rather worrying: in particular, the cheap videogame animatic cut scene that is the last part of this teaser ie Iron Man and War Machine duking it out with the multiple scaled down Iron Mongers – it’s as if Robocop and Aliens and all these other classic 70s and 80s movies never happened. CGI is destroying the genre movie field.

In future, you may as well buy the computer game than watch the movie if IM2 is anything to go by, it seems. At least Kick Ass is going to um, Kick Ass this year.
