Those ‘female Doctor Doom’ rumours are definitely six feet deep now as The Wrap reveal a shortlist of suitably intense young actors who are up for the role of big bad in Chronicle director Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four reboot.

The site reports that the stars in the running are Byzantium and Maleficent‘s Sam Riley, Jupiter Ascending and Black Death‘s Eddie Redmayne, Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes and Wrath Of The Titans‘ Toby Kebbell and Dredd and Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows star Domhnall Gleeson.

Interestingly, they seem to be going with English (and Irish lad Gleeson does an excellent English accent), so will we be looking a clipped Hammer villain accent on Victor von Doom, and how will his reinvention take shape?

Son of a president for life in some fictional former Soviet satellite, perhaps? Maybe his father was a technocrat who served as the face of the military coup – branded ‘Doctor Doom’ by the opposition press – perhaps he sends young Victor to get an American education, where he meets Reed Richards?

It’s just a thought…

Fantastic Four is set to be released on 6 March 2015. You can buy Josh Trank’s Chronicle on Blu-ray for £9.75 at Amazon.co.uk and find out more about the comics that inspired the film with new digital magazine Uncanny Comics.
