Equals trailer Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult’s love is illegal

Feelings are outlawed in the stylish first trailer for Equals

The first trailer for Drake Doremus’ sci-fi romance Equals, starring Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult, is here, and it definitely looks stylish.

Hoult and Stewart play “co-workers Nia and Silas in a futuristic utopian society called “The Collective” where crime and violence have been erased through genetic engineering that also, by the way, got rid of all those messy human emotions and love is a crime. And yet. Nia and Silas can’t help noticing a growing attraction between them, leading them to a forbidden relationship at first tentative but then exploding into a passionate romance, provoking suspicion among their superiors. They’re forced to choose between going back to the safety of the lives they have always known, or risk it all to try and pull off a daring escape.” (via Deadline)

The excellent supporting cast also includes Guy Pearce, Jackie Weaver, Kate Lyn Sheil (House Of Cards, You’re Next), Bel Powley (The Diary Of A Teenage Girl), Aurora Perrineau (Jem And The Holograms). Director Doremus previously gave us romantic dramas Like Crazy and Breathe In, and it’s written by Moon‘s Nathan Parker.

The movie played to mixed reviews on the festival circuit, but with a cast this strong we’ll definitely be checking it out.

Equals is released on 15 July in the US. No UK release date has been announced. Keep up with the latest genre news with the new issue of SciFiNow.
