The BBC has announced its plans to mark the sad death of Elisabeth Sladen, who died this week after a battle with cancer, with a special programme to be broadcast on CBBC on Saturday, immediately after the Season Six premier of Doctor Who.
Doctor Who: The Impossible Astronaut starts at 6.45 on BBC One.
The programme, My Sarah Jane: A Tribute To Elisabeth Sladen, will feature interviews with many of the actress’ friends and colleagues who worked with her, first on her original run as a companion from 1973 to 1976, and from 2006 onwards when she returned to the renewed series, and earnt her own, the children’s spin-off The Sarah Jane Adventures.
A reminder of the power of sci-fi to capture imaginations can be found in the moving tributes to Sladen left by children on the CBBC website.
“Elisabeth was inspiring”, commented 11-year-old Holly, “she showed me never to give up and I will miss her.”
