According to The Sun – who don’t have the best track record, given they reported that The Sarah Jane Adventures would be continuing without Elisabeth Sladen – 11th Doctor Matt Smith is set to leave Doctor Who in November 2013, making the 2013 Christmas Special his final appearance.

The paper reports that Smith wants to concentrate on Hollywood, which has publicly been his long-term goal since quite early in his run, but there’s no official word on whether this is true, and we will indeed be seeing in 2014 with the 12th Doctor.

Responding to The Sun’s claim, the BBC replied, “Sorry folks but even we don’t know what’s going to happen at Christmas. It’s not been written yet! But Matt loves the show and is to start filming the unmissable 50th anniversary, and the new series starting on Easter Saturday.”

Doctor Who returns with “The Bells Of Saint John” on 30 March 2013. You can read our spoiler-free preview of the episode here.
