Doctor Who Series 8 award-winning new writer revealed

Award-winning 24 Hour Party People writer is the last to join Doctor Who Series 8 team

Doctor-Who-Series-81Frank Cottrell Boyce, the writer of 24 Hour Party People and Millions, has been revealed as the final member of the Doctor Who Series 8 writing team.

Digital Spy reports that the award winning writer, who also penned The Claim, Hilary and Jackie and The Railway Man, as well as Danny Boyle’s spectacular opening ceremony for the 2012 London Olympics, has signed on to join Steven Moffat, Mark Gatiss, Steve Thompson, Phil Ford, Gareth Roberts, Peter Harness, and Jamie Mathieson.

It will be the first Doctor Who script for Boyce, who brings a great deal of cinematic pedigree and prestige to Series 8.

He told the Liverpool Echo “It’s like joining a family. It’s a great thing to be involved with. I grew up loving Doctor Who, and my teenage son was a big fan of it too. It’s a pleasure to write it and I’m looking forward to seeing Peter Capaldi as the new Doctor. I’m hoping there’s a bit of Malcolm Tucker in there too.”

Doctor Who Series 8 begins 23 August 2014 on BBC One and BBC America. You can buy Doctor Who: The Day Of The Doctor on DVD for £9.99 at Amazon.co.uk.
