The first two episodes of Doctor Who Series 8, and the first two starring new Doctor Peter Capaldi, will be directed by Kill List, A Field In England and Sightseers‘ Ben Wheatley.
Wheatley has become one of our most exciting genre filmmakers over the last few years, and has a full roster of upcoming projects, including the recently announced adaptation of JG Ballard’s High Rise, but Screendaily reports that he has found time in his schedule to direct Capaldi’s Twelfth Doctor in his first two adventures in the TARDIS.
“I am very excited and honoured to be asked to direct the first two episodes of the new series of Doctor Who,” Wheatley stated. “I’ve been a fan since childhood (Tom Baker is my Doctor if you are asking). “I’ve been watching the current run of Doctor who with my son and have discovered it all over again. The work that has been done is amazing. I’m really looking forward to working with Peter Capaldi and finding out where Steven Moffat is planning to take the new Doctor,” .
Doctor Who Series 8 will begin in Autum 2014. The 50th Anniversary Special will air on 23 November. You can buy Ben Wheatley’s A Field In England for £13.83 at Amazon.co.uk.
