Doctor Strange movie: Chiwetel Ejiofor villain role revealed?

The Oscar winner’s role in Marvel’s Doctor Strange is definitely unexpected

Baron Mordo
Chiwetel Ejiofor will reportedly be playing Doctor Strange foe Baron Mordo

Following in the wake of the numerous nuggets of superhero movie and TV news that seen the light of day recently, it seems that 12 Years A Slave and Children Of Men star Chiwetel Ejiofor will be playing Baron Mordo in Marvel’s Doctor Strange, according to Deadline.

However, it appears that the role isn’t as straightforward as first thought. Although in name his character will be Mordo, a fellow student alongside Strange under the tutelage of the Ancient One (who will be played – no doubt brilliantly – by Tilda Swinton), it’s reported that his character will be an amalgamation of various other characters in the Marvel universe.

So essentially it’s a case of so far, so good then. We’re sure that Benedict Cumberbatch will be excellent (even if he is a bit of a safe casting choice), while Ejiofor and Swinton are both unequivocally brilliant choices.

Doctor Strange is being directed by Scott Derrickson (Sinister, Deliver Us From Evil), with the screenplay penned by Jon Spaihts (Prometheus, The Darkest Hour).

Doctor Strange will be released in cinemas on 28 October 2016. For more about the comics that inspired the film, pick up the SciFiNow Superhero Movie Collection now.
