Sinister and Deliver Us From Evil director Scott Derrickson confirmed for Doctor Strange movie

file_203879_0_Doctor_Strange_Steve_DitkoScott Derrickson has been confirmed as the director of Marvel’s Doctor Strange.

The director of Deliver Us From Evil, Sinister and The Exorcism Of Emily Rose tweeted a picture of himself holding a comic, writing “My next movie will be STRANGE”

The character was teased back in Captain America: The Winter Soldier as one of Hydra’s targets, and Kevin Feige has long insisted that plans to bring Stephen Strange to the big screen have been in place.

Derrickson’s background in the horror genre (his directorial debut was 2000’s Hellraiser: Inferno) makes him an exciting choice for the dark arts and sorcery of Doctor Strange, and he’s handled an effects-heavy blockbuster before with 2008’s The Day The Earth Stood Still remake. Since the underrated The Exorcism Of Emily Rose, he’s shown an increasing level of confidence behind the camera, as demonstrated with Sinister.

No release date has been confirmed for Doctor Strange, but we can expect a lot of speculation to begin, and the casting rumours to continue.

Guardians Of The Galaxy is released 31 July in the UK. Deliver Us From Evil is released 22 August in the UK. Find out more about the comics that will inspire the Doctor Strange movie with our awesome new digital magazine Uncanny Comics.
