Doctor Strange casts True Detective star in mystery role

Scott Derrickson’s Doctor Strange movie has added another impressive name to its roster

Having been rumoured for a while, it has been confirmed by The Wrap in an interview witht the actress herself that True Detective and Sherlock Holmes star Rachel McAdams is the latest name to be added to the already impressive cast of Scott Derrickson’s Doctor Strange movie.

The identity of her character hasn’t been disclosed yet, although if she’s playing a pre-existing Marvel universe character then we’re putting our money on Clea, a student and later love interest of Strange’s. Considering the MCU’s propensity for diverging from comic-book canon when it needs to, there’s every chance that any version of her will be totally different from the source material.

She joins a cast that already includes Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Stephen Strange, a talented New York-based who turns to the magical arts after his hands are irreparably damaged in car crash. Also on board are Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One, and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Mordo.

Doctor Strange will be released in cinemas on 28 October 2016. For more about the comics that inspired the film, pick up the 100 All-Time Greatest Comics: Revised Edition bookazine now.
