After a fair bit of speculation about which (male) actor would play the Ancient One in Scott Derrickson’s Doctor Strange, it looks like Marvel are looking in a different direction.
THR reports that the magnificent Tilda Swinton is in talks to play the “Tibetan mystic known as the Ancient One, who is training pupils to be the next sorcerer supreme.”
We obviously applaud the casting of Tilda Swinton in anything, although the whitewashing of a Tibetan character is regrettable. Also, wouldn’t it have been absolutely brilliant if Swinton had played the Sorcerer Supreme? Imagine that!
Doctor Strange stars Benedict Cumberbatch in the title role and starts filming in the UK in November.
Doctor Strange is released 26 September 2016 in the UK. Keep up with the latest comic-book movie news with the new issue of SciFiNow.
