Ever since Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows and The Twilight Saga – Breaking Dawn it’s become something of a cliche for YA series to split their final books into two separate movies to get the most money out of the story.

That said, rare is the YA series which has the legs to even get a second movie, let alone a full series with The Mortal Instruments, Vampire Diaries, (probably) Ender’s Game and Beautiful Creatures all falling well short of the franchise threshold.

According to Deadline, Shailene Woodley-starred dystopian actioner Divergent will be joining this select club thanks to worldwide takings of $139 million in its opening weekend (The Hunger Games made $152 million in its opening weekend) and will split the third and final novel Allegiant into two parts.

Second film Insurgent will be released 20 March 2015, while Allegiant Part 1 will be in cinemas on 18 March 2016 and Allegiant Part 2 will be released on 24 March 2017.

Divergent is in cinemas now – read our review here. You can buy Divergent in paperback for £5.99 at Amazon.co.uk.
