Deadpool 2 officially confirmed by Fox – rejoice!

To the surprise of absolutely no one, Deadpool 2 is definitely happening

Considering the massive success of the Deadpool movie at the box office ($757.5 million at the time of writing, making it the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time), this news will come as a surprise to absolutely no one, but it’s welcome all the same. This week at the CinemaCon event in Las Vegas, co-chairman Stacey Snider took to the stage to officially confirmed that Deadpool 2 is 100% definitely a-go, saying as much: “We have really exciting news to share: The entire creative team, including director Tim Miller and producer Ryan Reynolds, are hard at work on a Deadpool sequel.” Booya.

While the original creative team have been reunited (Ryan Reynolds will reprise his role as Wade Wilson/Deadpool), while Tim Miller is returning as director and the writing team of Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are back in the frame), there has been no official confirmation regarding when it will actually be released or which of the original cast are returning (we would hope that at the very least Morena Baccarin and TJ Miller will reprise their roles. Hell, add Brianna Hildebrand’s Negasonic Teenage Warhead to that list too. She’s ace), we’re sure we’ll hear something too.

Perhaps more worthy of note is who will be joining the Merc With a Mouth this time around. With the prospect of an X-Force movie constantly being mooted, it begs the question of whether regular comics ally/sparring partner Cable will be cast. The sun of Cyclops and Jean Grey clone Madeline Pryor in the comics (long story), he journeys to the future to become a super soldier, only to return to fight his enemies – mainly Apocalypse – in the present day. At least, that’s the curtailed version of it.
