Daredevil Season 2 makes great Punisher casting choice

Walking Dead fan favourite will play Frank Castle in Daredevil Netflix series

Punisher
The Punisher will finally become a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Back in March, then-Daredevil showrunner Steven S DeKnight spoke to us about his desire to spin off into a “Hard R” Punisher reboot, saying, “I’ve been a huge fan of the Punisher comics for years… I’d love to see him get his due on a platform like this. Nothing would delight me more than to see the Punisher get his own show and maybe we could convince Marvel to go Hard-R rating. If any character deserves an R rating, it’s the  Punisher.”

Now, it looks like his wish might finally be coming true, with it being announced that The Walking Dead star Jon Bernthal will be taking on the role of brutal vigilante Frank Castle, aka the Punisher. Known for his black-and-white approach to taking on crime, it will be interesting to see him face off against Charlie Cox’s Daredevil in a dark and gritty world that is absolutely the perfect fit for him.

Jon Bernthal Punisher
The Walking Dead star Jon Bernthal will play Frank Castle

Speaking to Marvel.com, Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s head of television, said, “Jon Bernthal brings an unmatched intensity to every role he takes on, with a potent blend of power, motivation and vulnerability that will connect with audiences… Castle’s appearance will bring dramatic changes to the world of Matt Murdock and nothing will be the same.”

Back in the day, we tipped Captain America: The Winter Soldier star Frank Grillo for the role (which he seemed happy with), but we’re happy with Bernthal too. Shane was always one of the more interesting characters during his time on The Walking Dead, and we’re confindent that he’ll bring his trademark intensity to the show.

Daredevil: Season 2 will air on Netflix sometime in 2016. For more on the comics that inspired the series, pick up the SciFiNow Superhero Movie Collection: Revised Edition now.
