Chris Pine confirmed for Wonder Woman movie

Star Trek’s Captain Kirk will appear in Wonder Woman, playing exactly who you expected

Steve Trevor
Chris Pine has been confirmed for the role of Wonder Woman’s love interest, Steve Trevor

Star Trek and Z For Zachariah star Chris Pine has been linked with Patty Jenkins’ upcoming Wonder Woman movie for some time. Now, we can add his name to the ‘officially confirmed’ list, with The Wrap reporting that he will indeed be playing Steve Trevor.

For someone so used to being the leading man in whichever film he’s in, it’s an interesting role reversal, as his character will very likely play second fiddle to Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, both in terms of strength and screen time. We’re looking forward to seeing the standard movie power-relationship coupling turned on its head.

Saying that, Trevor’s no dandy in distress. For those who don’t know their comics history, his original story envisioned him as an Army Intelligence officer who crash-lands on Wonder Woman’s home of Themyscira, where he is nursed back to health by her. The two fall in love, and she subsequently accompanies him back to the mainland.

Post-Crisis revisions have seen his origins altered slightly, with their relationship cooling and heating up as a response. Recent years have also seen him become more involved with the superhero community as a whole, becoming head of ARGUS, as well as becoming part of the ensembles in the Justice League Of America and Team 7 comics. Considering Warner Bros’ clear intent to make the films inhabit the same universe like the MCU, we wouldn’t be surprised to see him turn up in other DC movies at some point.

Wonder Woman will be released in cinemas on 23 June 2017. For more about the comics that inspired the film, pick up the 100 All-Time Greatest Comics: Revised Edition bookazine now.
