Caspian tops the US box office

Prince Caspian, the second instalment in the modern Chronicles Of Narnia remakes, has taken the number one spot in the US box office during its opening weekend

prince-caspian.jpgPrince Caspian, the second instalment in the modern Chronicles Of Narnia remakes, has taken the number one spot in the US box office during its opening weekend.

However, the film fell shy of the $65 million in receipts garnered by its predecessor, managing $56.6 million. This was still enough to unseat Iron Man from its throne atop the charts, however, if the figures don’t improve then it doesn’t bode well for further adventures beyond the back of the wardrobe.

In other news, Speed Racer continued to quietly tailspin, finishing for the week with only $7.7 million. Its foreign opening was equally as dismal, with the film only taking £356,000 in the UK, bringing its total worldwide gross to date up to around $42 million, over $100 million short of its budget.
