So that Blade Runner sequel that Ridley Scott was directing? Well, it turns out that the Alien director won’t be quite as hands-on as we thought….
Speaking to Variety about Exodus: Gods And Kings, Scott revealed that he won’t actually be directing Blade Runner 2. The site notes that he’ll produce and that it should be shooting in 2015, but someone else will be sitting in the director’s chair. Who will that be? Well, that’s unclear.
What isn’t unclear, at least according to Scott, is that Harrison Ford will return. Harrison is very much part of this one, but really it’s about finding him; he comes in in the third act.”
In terms of details, it’s still all pretty unclear, but Scott says that original writer Hampton Fancher is involved. “We talked at length about what it could be, and came up with a pretty strong three-act storyline, and it all makes sense in terms of how it relates to the first one.”
What do you think? The idea of a Blade Runner sequel had already made a lot of us a bit nervous. Now that Scott’s not directing, we’ll be very interested to see who takes on a project this contentious.
