Billie Piper has joined the cast of Showtime and Sky Atlantic’s upcoming psychosexual horror series Penny Dreadful.
Deadline reports that the Doctor Who star will play “an Irish immigrant trying to escape a dark past” in the Victorian-set chiller, which tells the story of “some of literature’s most frightening and iconic figures as they grapple with alienation in Victorian London.”
Penny Dreadful also stars Josh Hartnett, Eva Green, Timothy Dalton, Harry Treadaway and Rory Kinnear. The series is created by John Logan (Gladiator) and produced by Sam Mendes. The first two episodes will be directed by JA Bayona (The Orphanage).
