The fabulous Emma Thompson will make a kick-ass Mrs Potts

So far, the casting for Disney’s live-action remake of Beauty And The Beast has been perfect with Emma Watson (Harry Potter) set to play Belle, Dan Stevens (The Guest) as the Beast and Luke Evans (Dracula Untold) as dashing villain Gaston.

The next wave of casting is even more brilliant. Emma Thompson (Nanny McPhee) has finally been confirmed to be playing Mrs Potts after last week’s rumours, Josh Gad (Frozen) is playing Gaston’s weird little sidekick LeFou and Kevin Kline (Last Vegas) is playing Belle’s father Maurice. With a cast like that, we’re going to be pissed if the film is rubbish.

Additionally, the 1991 animation’s composer Alan Menken – who won two Academy Awards for his work on it – will be returning to score the film. The live-action film is set to feature new recordings of old songs from the classic as well as several new songs written by Menken and Tim Rice.

A US cinema release date has also been announced: 17 March 2017.

Beauty And The Beast will be in US cinemas on 17 March 2017. You can buy Disney’s original Beauty And The Beast on DVD for £9.80 from Amazon.co.uk. Get all the latest fantasy movie news with every new issue of SciFiNow.
