Sound Of Space: Sci-Fi Film Music marks a first for the BBC Proms, which is showcasing sci-fi music to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing.

This year’s series of space themed Proms seek to explore how composers across centuries have imagined and created the sound of space, perhaps most poignantly represented through cinema. Music played a fundamental part in immersing audiences in the creative imagining of worlds and environments which have never previously existed, the isolation and emptiness of space, and the fight for human survival in such conditions.
