Batman solo movie is definitely happening

Not that we’re surprised, but a Ben Affleck Batman movie is in the works

This will likely come as a surprise to absolutely no one, considering that it’s been hinted at quite a lot, but it looks like a solo Batman movie starring Ben Affleck is pretty much a certainty.

Warner Bros themselves officially confirmed the news at the CinemaCon panel in Las Vegas, with chairman and CEO Kevin Tsujihara, who said, “We’re excited to be working with Ben Affleck on a standalone Batman film.” He didn’t mention whether or not the film would simply star Affleck or be directed by him as well, but either way it’s pretty conclusive that it’s happening.

Exactly when is another matter entirely. Affleck is a busy man, so it will be case of Warner Bros working alongside his schedule. Word is that he has been working with on a screenplay alongside comics scribe and DC Comics COO Geoff Johns, but as is often the case, rewrites and suchlike are likely.

Still, it’s nice to get confirmation that this is happening. Along with Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, Affleck’s portrayal of Bruce Wayne was one of the highlights of Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, showing a side to the Dark Knight we hadn’t seen on the screen before and clearly having done his work for the role.

Another question is whether it’ll be a prequel or sequel. The film hinted at a pretty tumultuous history for the character, from the wrecked mansion to the Robin suit he keeps as a reminder. It’s clear that his Batman has been through a lot, and it will be nice to see his journey explored in some way.
